Faridabad is an integral part of the national capital region. It is also one of the largest cities of the state of Haryana. Faridabad shares its boundaries with Delhi to the north, Gurugram to the west and the state of Uttar Pradesh in east and south. Geography and Location of Faridabad

Faridabad has a very strategic location. The river Yamuna forms its eastern boundary and the Aravalli hills are in the southern and south western directions. The Delhi – Agra NH2 passes through the center of Faridabad.

As per the data of 2011 census, the population of Faridabad was 1,404,653, out of which males were 750,446 and females were 654,207. The literacy rate was 84.88%.

The climate of Faridabad is quite similar to that of New Delhi and reaches extremes. It is excessively hot and dry, except during the monsoons. The monsoons period in Faridabad is from last week of June to September. It is characterized by high humidity and heavy rainfall. 

Summers are usually from March to June and the temperature ranges between 28 and 48 degree Celsius. The cold winds from higher Himalayan region make winters in Faridabad harsh and bone-chilling. The winter temperatures fall to as low as 3 to 4 degree Celsius.

Faridabad is a major economic center of the state of Haryana. It generates over 50% of the income tax for Haryana government. Faridabad is known for its henna (mehndi) production. Initially wheat was grown in and around Faridabad, but owing to the population boom in the early 90s, the production has shifted to the villages of Haryana.

The notable tourist attractions include Baba Farid's tomb, a tomb of prominent Sufi saint, Baba Farid after whom the city is named. There are several picnic places in Faridabad which include Badhkal Lake, Surajkund and Raja Nahar Singh Palace.However, when in Faridabad, one should not miss the tourist attractions in Delhi which inludes monuments, museums and forts.

One of the best times to visit Faridabad is during the Surajkund Crafts mela in early February. Coupled with pleasant climate, the Surajkund Crafts mela is a unique place where craftsmen from all corners of the country display their handicraft and buyers can purchase it directly from them.

The Delhi metro is extending its services under metro expansion phase III till various parts of Faridabad aiming to make traveling easy for commuters.

Road

Faridabad is very well connected to the national capital via road network. NH – 2, Delhi – Mathura highway passes through the center of Faridabad, thus, it is very well connected to the neighboring states. Adjoining state’s roadways service like Delhi Transport Corporation, Uttar Pradesh Transport Department, and Madhya Pradesh Transport Department offer great services in Faridabad.

The nearest airport to Faridabad is the Indira Gandhi International Airport of New Delhi which is at an approximate distance of 45km. Railway stations – Faridabad has many railway stations on the Delhi – Mathura double track broad-gauge line of the North Central Railway. But the most popular railway stations are Old Faridabad, Ballabgarh and New Industrial Township.
